Shave and haircut..

This weekend we went and bought some furniture and Kit got a haircut. He loves going to this place they are very nice, and do an awesome job. They even burn the hair off your ears. You can't get a haircut like his in the states for the price you pay here!

As for furniture we really were turned off by the sales people here so after going to a few place we went to the store that was low pressure and they didn't try to sell us anything when we were just looking. So we got 2 dressers and desk that should hopefully last us years to come!

Pilav

They seem to make this rice at all the restaurants here, I made it a few times when Kit was in the states to perfect it and now it comes out pretty good. We eat it with everything.

3/4 cup long-grain rice
2 tbsp orzo (check the pasta aisle)
1 cup hot water or chicken stock ( I use around 3/4 cup water and the rest chicken stock sometimes I have had to add more stock because the rice is still hard)
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp salt ( i use salted butter so I don't add salt)

Wash the rice several times with warm water and drain. Then cover the rice with hot water and leave for about 15 minutes, then drain. Place the orzo in a medium sized pot. Stir continuously on medium-low heat, until the colour turns light brown. Add the butter and rice in the cooking pot. Saute the rice with butter for 2-3 minutes while stirring.<- ( this step is important)
Pour 1 cup of hot water or chicken stock in it. Add salt. Turn the heat to low and cook until the rice absorbs all the water.
( I spilt the butter and use half with the Orzo an then add the rest with the rice)
Take the cooking pot away from the heat. Open the lid, place a clean kitchen towel across the top of the pot on the rim and put the lid on it. Let the Pilaf stand for about 5 minutes. We call this brewing time. Then serve.

Train

I have been trying to take a good picture of the train to give you an idea how close the train is to our house this one was last night it is kind of a neat picture I think.

The light is the train and the camera was sitting on our table looking through the back gate.

TMO Day

We are finally getting our household goods today 103 days after we shipped everything. It would have been sooner but we had power of attorney issues lesson learned for next time. So Christmas is here we are just waiting for Santa to arrive!

Santa arrived around 2:30 and they moved quick everything was out of the truck and most unpacked by 5:00 I guess we really didn't have much compared to some houses. It is really, really nice to have everything back I will always remember the last four months and how hard it was to not have somethings. We are pretty lucky. So nice we can focus on something else now, oh wait we still have to get the car :-)

Flush??

So I have been meaning to do this for a while but when I got to Turkey I had no idea how to flush, granted I was tried and ready to just sleep I had to ask Kit how to flush. One of the things you don't think about or know about before you come here.

How do you flush?

Pull up

Took about a month to get used to it.

I just hope I don't run into any of the bathrooms here that a just a hole in the ground. They have in the rural towns.

And we are off!!!

So to catch anyone up, Kit and I have been in Turkey since January I have now been here longer then Kit since he returned to the states for training. I wanted to have a place other then Facebook for family and friends to see what we are doing and I can do it all from my handy dandy IPad. I will post some pictures of things we have already done most are on Facebook. Hopefully when Kit gets home this week we can get out and take some pictures. Hope everyone enjoys and checks back for more updates.

PS. It is weird calling it The States! Funny.

This is Yinlankale or Snake castle. This was the first weekend I was here. It taught us all about toll booths and no left turns in Turkey.

Lots of farm land.
